why's and whatfor's

Why does one photograph look like a snapshot and another like a piece of art?
How do you photograph your art work?
How do you take a picture that you want to draw?
How do you set up a subject for photographing?
These are some of the things we will discuss.

You will need a camera, preferably digital.
You will need a basic photo editing program, I use PhotoFiltre, a free program.
You will need to know how to shut off your flash.
You will need to know how to use your macro, if you have it.

I'll warn you that I have little technical knowledge, just the love of a good picture. I'll try to pass on the things I have learned and I hope to learn from you also.

Hi Debbi,
Yes that is the right place.
Every discussion has a challenge, so you would post to the appropriate discussion.

Hi Bird
You got great photos of your eggs.
You're right getting down to the level of your subject, makes for a better picture. My camera has a tiltable viewer, which is excellent when you don't want to get right on the floor.
Thank you Joanie,
I plan for you guys to take and show pictures as well. I might be a bit scattered in my topics but I will have pictures to show what I am talking about.

Thank you, Paulette. I am in need of learning how to take good pictures and this is a very good start. This is a much needed thread for all artists. I like how you actually showed the different pics so we learners could "see" what you were talking about. Again, thank you!

The one trick I used to really enjoy using was getting down to the level of my subject. Now my angles are very limited when you are taking pictures from a wheel chair.

I really have to think about each picture. It's no longer great just to be intuitive. I do think I got good pics of the eggs though, thanks to the macro and zoom settings.

Christine, I know this is something you love also. I hope you will pipe in with your two cents.

Rose, I am the same. Since I started drawing I have more pictures dealing with art than I do of my children.LOL
